Nationality pricing groups (FNR, FR, EAC, ROA)
What each nationality band means and which passports or regions they apply to when pricing packages and quotes.
When you build a tour package, you choose pricing nationality groups instead of individual client countries. These groups match how parks, lodges, and activities set their rates across East Africa.
FNR — Foreign Non-Resident
FNR is the standard international tourist band: visitors who are not legal residents of the destination country. This is the most common band for safari packages sold to overseas clients.
- Typical passports: USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Asia, and other non-African countries without local residence.
- Pricing: Usually the highest park entry and lodge rates (e.g. UWA non-resident, RDB international gorilla permit).
- When to use on a package: Default for worldwide marketing when you quote at international rates.
FR — Foreign Resident
FR applies to foreign passport holders who legally reside in the destination country (work permit, resident visa, long-term stay).
- Typical profiles: Expats living in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, or Tanzania.
- Pricing: Often mid-tier between FNR international rates and EAC citizen rates.
- When to use on a package: Products aimed at resident expat communities or mixed resident/international groups priced at resident bands.
EAC — East African Community
EAC covers citizens of East African Community member states. In many parks and lodges, EAC citizens receive discounted citizen or regional rates.
- Member countries: Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, and DRC.
- Pricing: Often discounted citizen or EAC regional bands at parks and lodges.
- When to use on a package: Regional products marketed to East African travellers.
ROA — Rest of Africa
ROA is for African passport holders from outside the EAC. Rates vary by park and country but generally fall between EAC citizen bands and FNR international bands.
- Typical passports: South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, and other African countries outside the EAC.
- Pricing: Regional African bands where published (not the same as FNR or EAC citizen).
- When to use on a package: Pan-African marketing where clients are African but not EAC citizens.
